I’ve got something for you to add to your grocery list… NFTs! According to a CNBC article posted on January 16th, Walmart is rumored to be joining the metaverse with plans to create its own cryptocurrency and collection of NFTs. Yes you’ve heard that right! Walmart on December 30th 2021 filed seven applications for new trademark that indicate a desire to sell virtual goods. Walmart isn’t the only retail store trying to figure out how they will fit into the metaverse. Stores like Nike Gap and even Abercrombie and Fitch have also been submitting trademark applications with indications of virtual stores and NFTs coming soon.
